Chicago Residents Hold Sit-In Outside Mayor’s Office Demanding Affordable Housing Near Obama Library

Chicago residents staged a sit-in outside Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s City Hall office this week demanding a meeting to discuss preserving affordable housing near the site of the proposed Obama Presidential Center.

Organizers are demanding 30% set-asides for affordable housing stemming from new development and for all redeveloped city land to be 100% affordable.

Ashli Giles-Perkins of BYP100 – Chicago joined Roland on #RolandMartinUnfiltered to discuss the fight for affordable housing and the push back against gentrification in the neighborhoods that will surround the Obama Center.
